A standout player at the University of Mississippi from 1969 to 1971, Poole earned recognition as one of the program’s most dependable tight ends. He helped lead the Rebels to multiple bowl appearances and compiled an impressive collegiate career highlighted by key performances in major games.
Poole formed a lasting bond with quarterback Archie Manning, with whom he played during his Ole Miss years. Friends and teammates remembered him as dependable, loyal, and a steady presence both on and off the field.
Beyond football, Jim Poole built a successful career as a certified public accountant and business leader. He co-founded major accounting firms and served his community through leadership, mentorship, and charitable efforts.
Poole was also widely known for his faith and humanitarian work. In retirement, he devoted much of his time to volunteer efforts, including prison ministry and outreach programs aimed at helping underserved individuals rebuild their lives.
The Oxford native came from a legendary Ole Miss athletic family, with generations of relatives contributing to the university’s sports tradition. His legacy extended beyond athletics, influencing business, community service, and mentorship across Mississippi.
Funeral arrangements include visitation at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, followed by a service and burial in Oxford. Donations in his memory are being directed to charitable and ministry organizations he supported throughout his life.
